1. You Don't Need A Boyfriend
I know you want a boyfriend. All your friends are starting to get boyfriends and slowly starting to ignore you. You want someone to go to dances with. Someone you can snapchat. A person to walk you to classes. I know all of that sounds glamorous, but trust me, not having a boyfriend is going to save you from so much unnecessary heart breaks.

2. You don’t have to change yourself for a guy
I know it can be tempting to change yourself in hopes of getting your crush to like you back. But If you have to change yourself to be with him, he’s not the right guy for you. This applies to friends too. If you have to change yourself to be around your friends, you need to get new friends. Be you. You’re special just the way you are.

3. The “popular” crowd is overrated
Don’t break your back trying to be accepted by the “popular” kids. Trust me after high school no one is going to care if you were “popular” or not. People are only going to care whether or not you’re an actual nice person.

4. Your physical appearance does not define you
I know we all want to have the “ideal body type.” We think if we can just be prettier, life would be so much easier, but remember, it’s not about what's on the outside, it’s about what’s on the inside. Being “prettier” is not going to solve all your problems, so stop trying to change your physical self, instead work on how you can change your inner self. How can you start thinking more positively? How can you become a better person? A better friend?

5. Grades do not define you
If you freak out every time you get an -A, stop. You are going to drive yourself crazy. I know you want good grades, but don’t get so obsessive to the point of driving yourself into major stress and anxiety attacks. Work hard. Do your best. At the end of the day it’s not going to matter whether or not you got an A in chemistry, what matters is if you learn how to work hard, turn assignments in on time, and do your best.

6. Sports/clubs do not define who you are
Do not let things like sports/clubs define who you are. Take it from someone who went to college just to play volleyball and realized she hated the college (aka me). It is great to be involved, but don’t let them become your identity.

7. If you need help, ASK!
It’s ok to ask for help. It does not mean you are weak, it doesn’t make you stupid. Seriously, never shy away from asking for help.

8. Don’t be afraid to go to therapy
I think we can all agree this is a very hard stage of life. So don’t ever hesitate to go to a counselor. As someone who has been going to therapy for 2 years now, I can tell you it is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Most schools have a school counselor, so take advantage of that. Go talk to them. They’re there for you!

9. Get a mentor
I know we are all scared of adults, but I promise you they don’t bite haha. But for real, talk to adults and let them mentor you. They have gone through so much life experience and have a lot of wisdom to share. Take advantage of it. Learn from their mistakes, and let them guide you as you navigate this crazy life.

10. Stand up for your beliefs
I know it is hard to be the odd one out, but don’t be afraid to stand up for your beliefs. It is ok to be different, it's ok to have your own beliefs, you don’t need to be like everyone else.

11. Live in the moment
I know you probably can’t wait to graduate and move on, but don’t wish it away. This is a very special stage of life (even if it doesn’t seem like it at times). You have very few responsibilities, opportunities, and the freedom to just be a kid. Enjoy it.

12. Don’t set yourself on fire to keep others warm
Deep. I know. But for real don’t overextend yourself. Stop trying to please everyone. Stop saying yes to everything. It’s ok to just take care of yourself sometimes.

13. Save money
The sooner you learn to save your money the better your life will be. Plus, then you’ll have some spending money when you go to college. Cause unfortunately your parents won’t be there to give you a 20 dollar bill everytime you want to go out with your friends. Bummer. I know.

14. Don’t worry about others opinions of you
I know this is easier said than done, but seriously don’t worry about what other people have to say about you. You know your heart, you know your intentions. You can’t control what other people think, all you can control is how you act. So continue to be a nice person, do what's right, and don’t worry about what everyone has to say.

15. Let go of toxic friends
I know we all want friends, but it is much better to have no friends at all than to have a whole bunch of toxic friends. Mean friends will literally make your life miserable. Get rid of toxic people, and find people who are actually nice, encouraging, loving, and fun to be around.

16. School is not for everyone
If school comes hard for you it does not mean you are going to fail at life. Now, this is not me telling you to just go drop out, I just simply want you to know you don’t have to be good at math and science to be successful in life. So for now just work hard, do your best, but if you find yourself struggling, go easy on yourself. It is going to be OK. Just because math and science doesn’t come easy for you it does not mean you don’t have other talents.

17. BE YOU!
I know this probably sounds super lame, but for real, be you. You are the only you in this world. God created you in his image, and tbh that’s pretty cool. So be you. Don’t try to change yourself to be someone else.
